Why you need to have your septic tank pumped out
After a year or two, the solids accumulate in the septic tank and need to be pumped out and brought to a processing facility (we process everything in Muskegon). If these solids aren't removed they are pushed out to the drainfield and clog in the soil creating a thick mat- This stops drainfield operations. The sewage now has only two places to go and it is back up into the house or flow across the ground surface over the drainfield. If this happens, you may need to replace your septic system.
Septic tanks are maintained for max duration. This depends on waste water usage, drainfield soil, septic tanks size etc...
Healthy septic tank tips
- Daily water use at 50 gal. x person.
- Do not use your garbage disposal.
- Do not pour oils down the sink drain.
Effluent filters do 2 things. First it is an early warning system: when waste tries to escape the septic tank it clogs the filter and shuts down function. Second its an insurance for your drainfield making sure waste solids don't enter the drainfield.
